Beginner Piano Lessons
Fun, interactive piano lessons are offered at reasonable rates for beginner through beginner/intermediate levels. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and incorporate healthy technique and posture, listening skills, music theory, note-reading, and musicality.
These lessons are perfect for children starting piano, adult beginners, or adults who are professional musicians but would like a basic understanding (or further coaching) of piano playing.
Why piano lessons?
The piano is a wonderful foundational instrument! The piano provides a full spectrum of sensory learning: tactile, auditory, and visual. Each key corresponds to a note of the scale, including sharps and flats, so it’s easy to “see” the music while experiencing the touch of the keyboard and the sound of each note. Thanks to gravity, piano can be an ergonomically gentler choice for learning a first instrument.
Music theory instruction methods often use the piano as a reference instrument, and music programs at the collegiate level can require basic knowledge of piano. Even for professional musicians who are singers or play other instruments, piano skills can be useful for their own practice or teaching.

Do I need a piano at home?
For an optimal learning experience, students should have access to a well-tuned acoustic piano or a keyboard with 88 weighted keys and a damper pedal. An adjustable piano bench is also recommended to support healthy posture. Lessons at the teacher’s home are conducted on a professional-grade Roland keyboard with weighted keys and a triple pedal unit.
Where can I buy a piano or keyboard?
I’ll be happy to provide local resources for finding pianos and keyboards. A high-quality keyboard can provide a more enjoyable and profitable learning experience than a poor-quality acoustic piano, so be cautious of free or very inexpensive used pianos. Keyboards also have the advantage of being more portable and easier to move.
