Learning the Harp FAQs

Where do I begin? New students just need a heart to learn! If you’re reading this, you’ve got this down. You’re doing great! :) I offer introductory classes (some don’t even require a harp!), private lessons, and group lessons.

Where can I get a harp? I'll be happy to guide you through the process of finding the perfect harp! Many new students opt to begin with renting. There are often local resources in North Carolina, and I also highly recommend The Virginia Harp Center’s fantastic harp rental program.

What are the lesson rates? Various rates and tuition plans are offered to best accommodate each student’s schedule and goals. Please contact me to chose the best lesson plan for you.

Is the harp difficult to learn? There’s only one person who can answer this - you, marvelous you! :) The harp is very unique, so even considering learning it is a wonderful step to success!

The best approach to learning the harp is with a mindset open to learning and trying new things. Harpist Carlos Salzedo wisely observed, “There is nothing difficult. There are only new, unaccustomed things.” At some point in our lives, we were all beginners at something. My goal as a teacher is to help each student embrace the learning process with joy. This process is different for every one of us, because we are all truly unique. You may find that given some time and consistent practice – even a little each day! – the harp suddenly feels like a good friend that you can’t wait to spend time with.

Are there recital opportunities?

Students are encouraged to share their musical gifts with their communities and will receive coaching in performance skills. Recital opportunities are offered based on collective interest and availability. Students at UNCSA Community Music School can participate in the school’s recitals each spring and fall semester.
